Editorial Photography – Newspaper Photojournalism

Photojournalism is what first drew me to photography. The idea of capturing everyday life and somehow making it interesting enough to land on the front page of the newspaper was the reason why I studied photography in the first place. My first job as a photographer was at the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter. Mentored by talented, veteran photographers and journalists, these early years of deadline-driven coverage of the daily lives in Manitowoc County shaped me into the photographer I am today. My years as a photojournalist taught me to shoot quickly, overcome terrible lighting situations, and really hone in on my decisive moment skills. Though I eventually ventured into marketing and communications photography, the lessons I learned at that newspaper are still with me at every shoot.
